ELFT (Loránd Eötvös Physical Society) and the János Bolyai Mathematical Society jointly publish the KöMaL, with more than 7000 copies making their way to students.
Since its genesis 100 years ago, physics problems have always appeared, and later, with the help of ELFT, the Physics Column became a permanent addition. For this reason, the ELFT also celebrates this centennial. The offspring of the Mathematical and Physical Society include: the 1305 members of the ELFT, the 18 *specialty* groups, and the 19 *area* groups. The society organizes *continuity* between all its offspring and publishes its own journal, the Fizikai Szemle.
The Eötvös Society launched the monthly Fizikai Szemle (1950) with the optimistic words of Károly Novobátzky: - ``Physics develops with enormous speed, this is the most important science of the world, its importance is unsupassable by anything else. It was not without reason that Einstein called physics the fifth superpower. Experimental physics reaches for the innermost secrets of matter with extremely sophisticated and expensive methods, while theoretical physics explores the possibilities logically structuring phenomena of nature. In Hungary, the impatient desire to catch up what we missed for centuries turns into action in physics as well.'' - The Eötvös Society extended its reach to the whole country, organizing local groups nationally since 1951 and has continuously changed the locations of its meetings. It became perhaps the most important organizer of international conferences in Eastern Europe since the 1960's. (It hosted several conferences of the European Physical Society, International Union for Pure and Applied Physics, International Atomic Energy Agency, International Society of Astronautics, and UNESCO.) On a lake shore street in Balatonfüred, linden (*this was lime*) trees planted by Paul A. M. Dirac, Richard Feynman, Nicolas Kurti, Benoit Mandelbrot, Sir Nevil Mott, Rudolf Mössbauer, Bruno Pontecorvo, Jurij V. Prohorov, Edward Teller, and Eugene Wigner preserve the memories of their visits and lectures at Balaton conferences. ELFT continues to support and organize physics conpetitions and conferences.

Althought the Eötvös Competition is perhaps the most reputed, it is not the only one run by the Eötvös Society. It would be a long list to enumerate them all, let us stop by saying that the long list begins in primary school. Competitions carry the names of famous teachers, such as István Hatvan Ireneus Károly, Sándor Mikola, József Öveges, Miklós Vermes etc.
On January 21, 1994, the ELFT, the János Bolyai Mathematical Society, and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences together organized a centennial celebration for the KöMaL.
